We played host to groups of children from three of the other Special Schools in Gloucestershire and four local Primary Schools.
“It showed us that other pupils would really love to come to this school; it shows how lucky we all are” M. Bolton
Coln House School pupils enjoyed the responsibility of leading small groups around the school classrooms and field to take part in all the different activities which had been organised –
face painting to the forensic examination of owl pellets via pond dipping, Ultimate Frisbee, the Fairford Fire engine, CDC recycling, making willow wands with Twiggy, ECO bunting, paper plate flowers, origami birds, OVO Energy’s pedal power to light up 3 bulbs, Cotswold
Forest School camp fire skills, learning about our chickens, learning about and tasting produce from the garden - and lots more - it was all brilliant and the pupils seemed to be joining in with great enthusiasm.
“They were very funny and cute and loud at times” D. Spears
“It benefits CHS because we were trusted, helpful and more polite” S. Smart
‘I spoke to a friend who was on secondment from his work experience at the Forest School at the Ernest Cook Trust, taking groups for Pond Dipping. He told me how impressed he was with everything he had seen and in particular how great the Coln House kids had been - polite, respectful, making eye contact and chatting sensibly about everything, explaining things to him - he was really pleased to be part of it all and appreciated the easy way our pupils had accepted him and made him feel welcome. As he admitted, he has been pleasantly surprised to learn what goes on behind the high walls which he passes most days. ‘ H. Patterson
