Our Philosophy

The School

Coln House is a Residential school situated on the edge of the small South Cotswold market town of Fairford, just eight miles from Cirencester and four and a half miles from Lechlade. The school caters for boys and girls aged 9 – 16 years from all areas of Gloucestershire, with occasional placements from neighbouring counties.

Vision Statement
Our vision statement defines the principles we at Coln House would like to guide our daily actions and upon which the future development of the school will build. Those who join or who are already in our community need to share these aspirations. We strive to make our school a happy and caring community where we recognise the individual and their right to a safe, secure and appropriate learning environment. In order to achieve this we need to remove barriers to learning. We ensure therefore that there is effective communication of behavioural expectations within the school community, and that all concerned consistently apply these. We recognise that all pupils need security, raised self-esteem, success in learning, continuity of staffing and activities, development of social skills and help in transition to other schools and work. We need to work in partnership with parents.

As staff, we cannot succeed on our own. The building of constructive home/school relationships is considered vital, as well as supporting our friends in the local community.
We are a place of preparation for adult life. That means that we must ensure that every student leaves with qualifications, interests, personal qualities, life and social skills that will enable him or her to function independently in the wider world.
