Coln House School were asked by Fairford Town Council, if we could produce a Santa’s Grotto for the Christmas Fayre in the Market Place this year. The plan was to transform the bus shelter next to The Bull into a magical space where the children could meet Father Christmas
Staff and children combined their knowledge and efforts to cut the shapes of reindeers, children and Christmas tress from large sheets of wood. The children then primed and undercoated each piece. Yacht varnish was used for the last coat to make all the shapes weatherproof. It was a race against time from the start; both workshop and art room were hives of activity.
Mr Jeffcott, Mr Smith plus a group of pupils loaded the truck and put the display up in the bus shelter. We received many favourable comments from local residents who said how effective they thought it was. Many Fairford children met Father Christmas through our pupil’s efforts.
